Dr. Angela Jakobsen was one of the two original doctors who started Molecheck Auckland in 2006 and was trained by Dr. David Langford, Molecheck’s founder. She has been performing skin checks at our Auckland Branch for more than 18 years.
Angela studied Medicine in Scotland at St. Andrews University. She came to New Zealand as a junior doctor and as a keen sailor, cyclist and hiker, she naturally fell in love with the country and decided to stay.
She has had a fascinating career in medicine from living in Thailand doing Travel Medicine to back in New Zealand doing Paediatrics and looking after refugee communities from Afghanistan a cultural highlight.
Now, she spends half her time as a G.P. and the other half doing skin cancer checks. She is married to a Specialist skin Pathologist and is continuously learning from him and improving her practice.
Apart from the diagnosis of skin lesions, Angela enjoys the variety of patients from farmers, sailors and builders to lawyers, engineers and teachers and people from all walks of life to converse with and learn all about their experiences.
Angela’s love for nature and the outdoors has taken a toll on her skin and she is very aware of the incredible strength of the New Zealand sun and the damage it can cause. The hole in the Ozone layer, minimal pollution and the proximity to the equator is a very dangerous mix. She encourages people to enjoy all the outdoor activities as she does but to be safely protected.
Her top tips are: Avoid the Midday sun in the summer, clothing, hats and sunglasses are the best protection and always carry a small SPF50 sunscreen so that you are not caught out unprepared. Teach your children about safety in the sun to protect their delicate unblemished skin.
