Molecheck is delighted to welcome Dr. Ciaran Edwards to its Auckland team – a GP with a special interest and advanced training in skin cancer medicine.
Originally from the UK, where skin cancer is relatively rare, Dr. Edwards trained in medicine in New Zealand. His career has taken him all around New Zealand, including Akaroa, Dunedin, and Wellington, before settling in Auckland.
In his free time, he enjoys spending quality moments with his family and friends on Waiheke Island. With the arrival of spring, he’s looking forward to beach outings, gardening, and exploring walking trails, all while being sunsmart of course!
Ciaran emphasises the importance of early detection in skin cancer treatment. He was profoundly impacted early in his career by the statistic that nearly one person dies from melanoma every day in New Zealand – deaths that could be preventable with early detection and treatment.
His top tip for staying safe in the sun is to “Slip, Slop, Slap, and Wrap”. He stresses the importance of wearing a good hat to protect areas prone to skin cancer, such as the scalp, face, lips, and ears, from excessive UV exposure.
