Molecheck Auckland has welcomed Dr Jaime Farr to its specialist team, bringing extensive experience to a country with some of the world’s highest UV levels.

Dr Farr, who completed his medical degree at Barts and The London Medical School in London, moved to Auckland from Bournemouth six years ago and has since built a strong foundation in both General Practice and Urgent Care settings.

It was during this work that he identified a significant gap in New Zealand’s approach to one of the country’s most common health threats.

“I was genuinely surprised, given how common skin cancer is in New Zealand, by how little dedicated training this area often receives,” Dr Farr says. “After completing further advanced dermoscopy and skin cancer training, Molecheck felt like the ideal place to focus on skin assessments and treatment, supported by a team completely committed to skin cancer health.”

Dr Farr joined Molecheck in September 2025, drawn by the opportunity to combine diagnostic expertise with immediate treatment outcomes.

“Detecting melanoma early and treating it promptly is one of the most rewarding parts of my work,” he explains. “Being able to both detect and treat a cancer yourself at a stage where treatment can be curative is a rare opportunity in general practice. That direct and immediate impact on someone’s health and future is a major part of what drives my passion for this field.”

His message to New Zealanders is clear: early detection can save lives, and no concern is too small.

“Most skin cancers begin subtly. A new spot, a small change in shape or colour, or a mole that simply looks different from the rest can be an early warning sign,” Dr Farr says. “Getting checked early makes a significant difference to outcomes, and no concern is ever too small to have reviewed properly.”

Outside the clinic, Dr Farr enjoys the New Zealand lifestyle with his wife and one-year-old son, spending time cycling, running and hiking – though he admits sun safety education starts early in his household.

“Living here has strengthened my appreciation for sun safety, even if our little boy still thinks hats are frisbees and has not quite learnt the basics of sun protection yet. We are working on it.”
