From treating patients on the battlefields of Afghanistan to treating skin cancer in Canterbury, a career in medicine has taken Christiaan Vodde around the world.
The former Red Beret and army doctor in the Dutch army, Christiaan was born in Alkmaar in the Netherlands and studied medicine in Antwerp in Belgium.
“I’ve practised medicine in Leiden and on the Netherlands-Belgium border and worked as a surgical and A&E doctor, and in child and family health.
Christiaan moved to Canterbury 10 years ago and has been working as a GP at the Amberley Medical Centre ever since. Passionate about the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer he joined Molecheck to hone his skills in its treatment. With 50% of New Zealanders getting skin cancer in their lifetime, Chris is passionate about ensuring people get proper diagnoses and treatment plans.
He is married to JungHwa – who was born in Korea and runs a business making and selling soap and soap dishes.
They live in Amberley in the old vicarage with their three children, sons Theo and Louis and daughter Noah.
Christiaan enjoys spending his free time with his family, whether it’s going for a bike ride or hiking with Theo and Noah or hanging out with Louis. Friday night is family movie night and Saturday night is board-game night.
